Quick answer
How to validate CPU, GPU and storage telemetry after installing a new device driver.
These steps explain how to gather comparable evidence with HWiNFO on Windows, rather than treating a single sensor reading as a diagnosis.
Record a before state
Before updating, note the driver version and save a short sensor log under known idle and load conditions. If no baseline exists, record the original symptoms as precisely as possible.
Review changed sensor availability
After reboot, open HWiNFO and check whether sensors are present, named differently or report changed units. Missing telemetry does not always mean the hardware is missing; the driver may change what it exposes.
Test the same workload
Compare readings from a similar workload with the same power settings and approximate room conditions. Review utilization and power alongside temperatures and clock speeds.
Check Windows evidence
If new instability appears, check Windows Event Viewer, the installed driver version and device status. Correlating timing does not establish that the driver is the sole cause.
Choose the next action carefully
Use vendor-supported installation, rollback and troubleshooting instructions. Avoid changing several drivers, BIOS settings and monitoring intervals at once.
Practical checklist
- Record hardware, driver and Windows versions.
- Use comparable conditions and one workload.
- Reset minimum and maximum readings before a run.
- Review sustained trends and supporting evidence.
- Use manufacturer limits before making changes.
